Bee is offline now

22/8/2014

Epic sadness at not being able to connect to Bee anymore - a reality I wasn’t fully confronted with until I opened MC Chat on my phone in order to log into This Land. Somehow this morning I managed to stop and back up Bee, and cancel the hosting, without fully feeling the implications.

Custom IP fail

For some reason the custom IP for Bee (beeminecraftserver.nn.pe:25581) isn't working at the moment. I have submitted a support ticket, but the host are being pretty useless at the moment.
In the meantime it should be possible to connect to Bee through the numbered IP which is currently 185.38.148.48:25581

Cassian's server is now public and I don't want to run Bee anymore

Upon return form Autscape (which Bee is heavily inspired by) I am finding it easier to know and act upon what I want. This is a good thing.

I have found that:

  • I don't want to administrate (be responsible for the running of) a Minecraft server.
  • I don't like to play Minecraft without Cassian (Lottiotta).
  • I'm inclined to play on Cassian's server, This Land now that it has AutismChat on it and isn't limited to only 4 trusted players.
  • I am happy about Bee and what has happened with it so far; I have learned so much.
  • I am sad to say goodbye to all the lovely people who have joined, some of whom I haven't even spoken to in-game yet.

For Bee players there are some options:
  1. Everyone on Bee who still wants to play on a Bee-like server, transfers lock, stock and barrel to This Land. If desired I can give the region your base is in (including any items you may have stored there) to Cassian, who can then dump it somewhere in This Land (this will not be neat - there will be cliffs, but you get to take your base with you!).
  2. If someone else wants to run Bee, I will do what I can to enable that. If no offer is made by the end of this billing cycle (2014-08-23) I will likely take Bee offline but keep a backup on my computer in case anyone (including me) wants to run it in the future.

I welcome any comments/feedback. There may be other options I haven't thought of.

CraftBukkit > Spigot. Possible monsters.

3/7/2014

I've switched the server mod (an un-modified server cannot support plugins) from CraftBukkit to Spigot. In theory Spigot offers better performance (e.g. less RAM used) but it's a bit more complicated which is why I've put it off until now. So far the server seems to be running fine, and it also seems to have fixed the issue with the monsters wondering off into unloaded chunks and accumulating, preventing more monsters from spawning. So Bee might be a little more dangerous now.
However, if you notice any aspect of Minecraft not working as you think it should be, please let me know.

Unexpected Server Migration

3/7/2014

Our host (Nitrous Networks) just unexpectedly moved the server to a different "node" because of some hardware issues they were having. So the IP address for Bee has changed again. I've made a custom IP now, so this won't keep happening every time the server gets moved. The new IP is: beeminecraftserver.nn.pe:25581

As discussed previously, our IP address has now changed from 144.76.116.13:25581 to 185.38.148.17:25581
You will need to enter the new address, not the old one, in order to connect to Bee.

General happenings AFK, unrelated to Minecraft/Bee

MowLiao and AugustPhoenix are currently visiting Lottiotta and me.
A few days ago, Lottiotta sandwiched my router between the telephone/answer-machine and a stack of paper in order to get it out of the way of the Roomba; the router overheated and now doesn't do wifi or ADSL (internet). I'm at Lottiotta's house, using their internet. Rosa (Lottiotta's cat) has taken up her rightful place on my lap.

There is now a way for players to see the minimum time for which the server is virtually guaranteed to continue to run. Bee's accounts are now available for you to view. So long as there is enough money in the hosting account, I will use it to pay the hosting bill. I will also try to keep costs low so that all contributions (including my own) go further. The current balance of £3.42 (at time of writing) will pay for hosting (assuming Nitrous Networks continues to offer the Wood Tier at £2.50) up until the 23rd of August.

Melissa is stepping down as Help Officer

12/6/2014

Melissa doesn't feel she can be sufficiently dedicated to being a member of staff without Cassian's support. That's quite understandable (I feel the same way!) and also expected.

Now it's just me. Very sad. Sad sad sad.
